Just three years after Mayhurst’s construction, over 18,000 troops were housed on the property during the Civil War. During the winter months of 1862, this main floor room was General A.P. Hills’ stay while he made Mayhurst his headquarters. In the course of the war, both General Lee and General Stonewall Jackson would also stay in this same room. 

The original hardwood oak floors harvested from Mayhurst’s trees, three gorgeous 10-foot-tall arched windows paned with the original wavy glass, and the original black marble fireplace all speak volumes about Mayhurst’s rich history and unique architectural beauty. This room is situated near the dining room along with the veranda and features an impressive 7-foot-tall antique bed and a bath with a walk-in shower.
